Mya is possibly one of the most underrated females in the industry. To this day, I can still listen to Moodring like it was the first time and get the same excitement as I did in 2003. To me it’s an R&B classic. I just wish everyone embraced her as much as I do. She knows what she has and works it in ways that are distinctly her. Not to mention the fact that she’s amazingly beautiful.
Mya has just released her new mixtape, Beauty & The Streets Vol. 1, and while it’s cool as far as mixtapes go, I’m still just WAITING for a full blown album. It’s been far too long since I’ve had new material (Liberation doesn’t count, lol), so this will have to hold me until she’s ready to release properly. Like I said, I realise it’s a mixtape but Mya really shines when it’s just her on a track (which is proved by the fact that the best tracks on Beauty & The Streets are the ones she does solo). Some of the raps on this album are just… unnecessary. She could have held these tracks on her own and they would have sounded a lot better too. I do really respect her for keeping her name out there though. Can’t knock the hustle!
