News: Miley says Goodbye to Hannah

I knew it was coming and you knew it was coming. Miley Cryus has decided to call it quits after this final season of taping. Once i saw the stripped pole routine and the semi naked photos begin hitting the net it was a matter of time. I understand who can take her seriously as an actress for more than family friendly flicks. You can argue that family films do still make a shit ton of money. I wish her the best. Stay out of trouble and learn from the life that is Britney Spears.

Music News: Ticketnation?

Looks like Ticketmaster and Live Nation are one step closer to forming a global Monopoly on ticket sells and price fixing  for the venues that two my own. This is just my opinion. Ticketmaster and Live Nation are trying to cut costs by not having to compete against one another. I wonder if these 360 deals have put pressure on Live Nation? I liked Live Nation because it provided options. I hate not having options. For the consumer this could be a gift and a curse. Gift because it wouldnt be confusing as to which ticket company serves which venue. Bad because this could make prices go up. For artists, it will stream line booking. It may also force them to pay more to rent each venue though.

Music News: Taylor Swift | Top-Selling Digital Artist

in History. yes You read that right in all of History. Taylor has had a banner year. He album is still selling 100K a week even even though an entire year has passed already. She adds another title to her resume. She also is the best selling artist of 2008 and 2009. I almost though that Susan Boyle chick would kick that ass in the home stretch.

Here is the press release

Nielsen SoundScan Lists Taylor Swift as the Top-Selling Digital Artist in History

Taylor Has Year’s Top-Selling Album and Year’s Most-Played Song

Taylor Wins People’s Choice Award for Favorite Female Artist
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ — With over 24.3 million digital tracks sold to date, Taylor Swift is the top-selling digital artist in music history, according to sales figures released yesterday by Nielsen SoundScan. In addition, her FEARLESS album was 2009′s top-seller, with sales last year in excess of 3.2 million copies, and Taylor claimed both the #1 and #2 positions atop Nielsen’s BDS Top 10 Most Played Songs chart (all genres), with “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story,” respectively. She also topped the all format 2009 Top 10 Artist Airplay chart with over 1.29 million song detections, and the Top 10 Artist Internet Streams chart with more than 46 million song plays.
FEARLESS was also the top-selling album of 2008, and Taylor is the youngest solo artist ever to top the year-end sales chart. FEARLESS, now quintuple-platinum, also topped Billboard’s 2009 all-genre Top 200 Albums chart and was named Country Album of the Year by the editors of iTunes. Taylor’s self-titled debut album, released in 1996, currently holds the record for Billboard’s longest charting album this century, and she is tied with the Beatles and Mariah Carey for Billboard’s Most Top 20 Debuts.
Taylor finished 2009 not only with the best-selling album, she was named Billboard’s Artist of the Year, as well as Entertainer of the Year by the Associated Press. She topped People magazine’s Most Intriguing People of 2009 list, was named a Person Who Mattered by the editors of Time magazine, a Person of the Year by NBC, and was featured as one of Rolling Stone’s 100 People Changing America. People named her one of 2009′s 10 Best Dressed Celebrities and also one of the year’s Most Beautiful People.
Taylor started off the New Year with a big win at last night’s People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles, taking home the all-genre Favorite Female Artist award. Earlier in the day she made a surprise appearance at CES in Las Vegas, where Sony Chairman & CEO Sir Howard Stringer introduced her as the newest Brand Ambassador for Sony Electronics.

PSA: Artist Education

Hello Guys, Girls and Others,

Today I will be discussing the need for Artist Education. Today’s artist can not afford to be one Dimensional and just focus on their craft. I really want to fly into outer space, but it would probably be ill advised to just learn one aspect of spaceflight huh? I am not going to go into the particular, but I will point out a few things.

Publishing: The quickest way to be broke when you get older and you can come up with any new hits. Take the case of the Legendary George Clinton. He hasnt seen a penny from his smash hit “Atomic Dog” in over 20 years. The reason he was tricked into signing over his publishing.

Management: It’s great to have a management team behind you, but you need to make sure that you have some say in the spends. Example: If you management company is able to spend any amount of money in regarding you and/or project without your consent you will never see any of the money they book. You will be responsible for paying them their 20% plus any money they fronted. If they money goes un checked you could owe more to your management company then your record label.

Name and Likeness: Who owns your brand and who says a say in you in your brand? If you dont know you in trouble. If the label or management can stick your face on anything and everything the will. On the flip side, if you have to get permission to use your own name and likeness how does that help you.

If I get enough comments. I will make this a weekly feature. If I dont then I wont.

2010 for the win.

Throwback Video: Ciara | Promise | Vevo

Real talk you can say what you want about Ciara as of right now, but The girl was on to something back in the Gap. Before this video my favorite Ciara video was “OH” just because of the Car Dance. I know bed room moves dont mean that a relationship is worth staying around, but Im just saying… moving the way she move I could probably deal with damn near anything!!!

Shot Out to Vevo.com for getting their shit Together.

Music Video: Shakira | Give It Up To Me

I know I’m late, but I dont really care. I stumbled across this video and I must say that I can have no clue what she is saying, but yet I still watched it all the way the through. I could watch Shakira and her dancers with no sound. She just fine. Oh Lil Wayne in the video too. Oh and did you hear about her attending college in LA and no one knew it was her? They dumb. Check out the video from MTV.com since VEVO sucks. Yeah I said it and I mean it.
